Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret

Director: Kip Andersen, Keegan Kuhn

Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret is a 2014 documentary film directed by Kip Andersen and Keegan Kuhn. The film examines the impact of livestock farming on the environment – exploring topics such as climate change, water use, deforestation and the occurrence of dead zones in the oceans. The film also examines the policies of several environmental organizations on these topics.

The film won multiple awards, including the Audience Award at the Environmental Film Festival, South Africa in 2015, and the Best Foreign Film Award at the 12th Annual Environmental Film Festival in Canada.

The Cowspiracy film has been criticized for incorrectly claiming that animal husbandry is the primary cause of greenhouse gas emissions and environmental destruction, even though the scientific reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (a United Nations scientific body) consistently confirm that the leading cause of human-induced climate change is the burning of fossil fuels.
